After serving 15 years leading The University of Texas of the Permian Basin and overseeing a period of unprecedented growth and evolution, Dr. W. David Watts announced that he would retire as president of the university in July. Dr. Watts is the longest serving president at UTPB, making a mark in both the university and in the Permian Basin community since he assumed this position in June 2001.

In honor of his commitment and dedication, Dr. Watts will be honored with a reception at the Odessa Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, June 28th from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. In addition, we will formally welcome his successor, Dr. Sandra Woodley, who will take on the role as UTPB President in July. Woodley is no stranger to the UT System, serving as the System’s vice chancellor for strategic initiatives from 2010 to 2013.
