The University of Texas of the Permian Basin is celebrating four and a half decades of educational excellence. As the only four-year higher education institute in the Permian Basin, we are proud of our home in Odessa and of our region's impact on the world.

The 45th anniversary of The University of Texas of the Permian Basin is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate together through festivities for the community, alumni, friends and supporters. We're kicking off three days of activities with a FREE brunch on the Quad. 

Join the University, alumni and friends for the 45th Anniversary & InvestitureCelebration Saturday, November 3. Our celebration will continue at Ratliff Stadium for a tailgate ahead of the UT Permian Basin football game. 

We hope you'll join us for food, games, live music and so much fun!

An investiture is defined as the “formal ceremony of conferring the authority and symbols of high office.” It is held during the new president’s first year in office, or at the conclusion of the first year. It is an academic ceremony which has symbolized the pursuit of knowledge since the Middle Ages. Today, universities view investitures as opportunities to welcome a new era and celebrate as a community.

The installation of a new president is a ceremony of dignity with many academic traditions and protocols. It includes an academic procession of delegates from other colleges and universities as well as the institution’s own faculty. Marchers wear the colorful academic regalia of their own institution.
